We are excited to launch our Good Life with Osteoarthritis: Denmark (GLA:D) Program in South Melbourne!

This program is strongly supported by high quality research from around the globe and has shown to be effective in improving quality of life, function and pain in people with Hip or Knee Osteoarthritis. The Australian GLA:D Program is being led by researchers at LaTrobe University, with incredible success over the past decade.

General Practitioners, Orthopedic surgeons, Specialists and other health professionals are increasing their referrals to programs such as GLA:D due to their cost-effective management of Hip and Knee Osteoarthritis.

What is included in the GLA:D Program?

· An initial assessment

· 12x 60-minute supervised neuromuscular exercise classes over 6-weeks

· 2x educational sessions

· A 3-month follow-up assessment

What does the evidence say?

  • Exercise does not harm the hip or knee joint in osteoarthritis patients and can actually improve the health of the cartilage. Exercise does not change the biomarkers of inflammation and cartilage turnover that are associated with osteoarthritis.

  • Exercise has a larger effect on improving Hip and Knee OA symptoms as compared to paracetamol and NSAIDs. Furthermore, there is a lower risk of adverse effects with exercise – meaning that exercise is safe!

  • Exercise is a more cost-effective management of Osteoarthritis as compared to manual therapy

  • Neuromuscular exercise aims to improve confidence, control and function and has shown to be beneficial for knee and hip osteoarthritis

  • In overweight people, weight loss of just 5% can yield improvements in function and pain levels. Nutrition intervention is a great way to start a sustainable weight loss journey.

Who will run the program?

Our Physiotherapist, Caz, is a qualified GLA:D practitioner who will run the program. Feel free to contact Caz via email at caz@themovementworkshop.com.au for further information or contact us via our phone.
